The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ====================================================================== Belva Launa McKay, daughter of John W. and Belva Rucker Butts, was born on February 21, 1927 in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. She passed from this life on September 5, 1998 at Farmersville, Texas. Mrs. McKay was 71 years of age at the time of her death. Launa attended the rural schools of Diamond Front and Liberty Center near Leedey. She spent a short time in the city of Shafter, California, from 1939 to 1940. On July 19, 1946 Launa was united in marriage to Roy C. McKay at Sayre, Oklahoma. To this most happy union three children were born: Jerry Leon, Linda Elaine and an infant son who died at birth. After their marriage Roy and Launa lived on a farm west of Leedey until 1950, at which time they moved to Espanola, New Mexico. This are remained their home until 1984 at which time they moved to Farmersville, Texas. Launa was a very loving mother and grandmother, always striving to make her home a place of happiness. She enjoyed the duties of a homemaker, working in her graden, canning, growing flowers, and making her yard a thing of beauty. She also operated a day care ceneter in her home for 13 years, loving to be with children. Launa helped with the Cub Scout program and was a member of the "Be Active-Live Longer" club of the senior adult group. Launa's highes priorities were he faith in God, her family and friends. She spent her life sacrificing to meet their needs. She was a member of the Leedey First Assembly of God Church and attended the First Baptist Church of Farmersville. Mrs. McKay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy; three sisters, Elizabeht Marrison, Agnes Hester and Viola Trocke. Those surviving to cherish her memory include her son, Jerry and his wife, Carol of Grnad Junction, Colorao; her daughter, Linda Speir and her husband, Steve of Farmersville, Texas; two brothers, Rucker Butts of Midland, Texas and Johnny Butts of West Siloam Springs, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Daniel Thorne, David Thorne, Deborah McCoy, Stephanie Speir and Scott Speir; three great grandchildren, Jessica and Derek Thorne and Ashley McCoy, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends. In her passing Launa leaves many friends and loved ones. Be it known to all that Launa McKay was a very faithful and loving wife and mother, she will be missed. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK 17-Sep-1998
