He was educated in the school of his county and at Gladen Academy. His seven brothers and three sisters have preceded him in dath. He was preceded him in death. He was the last of his immediate family. He moved to Earlville, Illinois, in 1890. On August 21, 1895, he was married to Miss Bessie Simison. He and his wife taught school while attending Wesleyan University at Bloomington, Ill. They moved to Oklahoma in 1901, teaching one year near Deer Creek. He and his wife pioneered the Rideton post office system. The McColgins and their three younger children moved from Reydon to Stillwater in 1934 so the children could attend college. The couple celebraated their 64th wedding anniversity on August 21, 1959. Mr. McColgin died Tuesday, October 20, 1959 in their home, 104 S. Melrosre, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Services were held in the First Methodist Church in Stillwater on Thursday, October 22, 1959 at 9 a.m. with Rev. Irving Smith officiating. Mr. McColgin was 89 years, 8 months and 15 days old at the time of his passing. A second service was held at Reydon at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Henry A. Morton, Rev. Carl Shelton and Rev. Charles Carpenter officiating. Honorary bearers were members of the Brotherhood of the Methodist church. Active bearers were grandsons. Donald Wayne and James Dan Burns, William Grant and Sterling Wayne McColgin, Eugene Burns and a friend Winston Gene Shindell at the Stillwater service. At the Reydon service Quentin Phillip McColgin Jr. and friend Kenneth Lee King were also bearers. Of their ten children, nine are living. They are Mrs. Hope Conrad, Sterling S. McColgin, Wayne R. McColgin, Quentin P. McColgin and Mrs. Mary E. Burns, all of Reydon; G. Willis McColgin of Kansas City, Kansas; Mrs. Ruth Wall of Billings, Oklahoma; Mrs. F. Octavia De Berry of Great Bend, Kansas; and Franklin McColgin of Long Island, N.Y. All of these attended the services; other relatives from a distance included Mrs. G. Willis McColgin, Homer De Berry, Mrs. June, Conrad, Elk City; and Mrs. Darla Womastek and Darla Jean of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Mr. McColgin was a member of the First Methodist church, the Methodist Brotherhood, Farmers Union, oklahoma Historical Soceity and was an honorary member of the W.C.T.U. Burial White Rose cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK
