She passed away November 1, 2004 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 8 days. When she was 3 years old, Nellie won the Pretty Baby Contest in Springerville. After her mother passed away in 1918, the family moved back to Oklahoma in a covered wagon and they settled in the Strong City area. Nellie was baptized in September of 1930 north of the Strong City bridge in the Washita River. She graduated from Strong City High School in 1932. On July 1, 1932 she was married to Russel McClellan. They lived in Strong City and Hammon before moving to Colorado and Texas. They returned to Roll, Oklahoma in 1944 and later to Cheyenne in 1982 to make their home. The Lord gave Nellie a servant's heart. She loved to help others and enjoyed baking pies and cinnamon rolls for all who stopped by and kept her family updated with the latest information from family and friends. Nellie was a member of the Cheyenne First Baptist Church. She was oreceded in death by her parents, husband of 69 1/2 years, 3 sisters and 4 brothers. The family request memorial donations be made to the Baptist Children's Home in Oklahoma City. Services were held November 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at cheyenne First Baptist Church officiated by Jeff Hurlbut and Pat Dougherty. Burial will be at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Fuberal Service. Survivors: 2 daughters, Bob and Anita Cannon, Crawford, Oklahoma and Rosela and Harold Lovell, Crescent, Oklahoma; 3 sisters, Ruby McFarland, Helen Ellingwood, Mary Patton, 1 brother, Keene Kirksey, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
