Mclendon, 76 years of age, was critically injured early Satruday evening when his '24 T model car went off of Highway 283 and into the canyon one-fourth of a mile south of Dead Indian bridge, eight miles north of Cheyenne. Mr. McClendon lay approximately 15 hours before he was found by Mr. Lee, workman on the Young ranch who was riding a fence. The man was unconscious when found and severly stung by ants who swarmed over his body. He was taken to Sayre hospital where it was found that he had a fractured skull, another heads injury, a broken arm, and a fractured bone in one of his lower limbs. At first, no hope was held forth for his recovery but later reports gave him a 50-50 chance for life. Judging from the time Mr. McClendon left Cheyenne Saturday it is estimated that the accident happened about 6:00 o'clock Saturday evening and it was 3:30 Sudnay afternoon when he wasa found. It was impossible to see the car from the highway unless one was out of the car and at the roadside. Mr. McClendon was a bachelor and was a familiar character around Cheyenne and Strong City near which place he resided.
