He passed from this life on Wednesday, November 11, 1992 in the Seiling Municipal Hospital, Seiling, Oklahoma, at the age of 90 years, 2 months, and 27 days. He attended the Rhea School near his home and spent his childhood years here in the area that b4ecame Dewey County, when "Jack" as he was lovingly called, was 7 years of age. Joseph J. McRee and Stelia B. Price were united in marriage in 1922, on the Dewey and Custer County Line, and herein lies an interesting story. The young couple traveled to Arapaho, Custer County Seat to obtain their marriage license, traveling, of course, by way of horse and buggy. They then returned to Leedey to receive their vows in the same county in which they had purchased their license. Upon reaching Leedey and their Home Minister, they were surprised when informed that they must be married in Custer County where the license was issued. The problem was nicely resolved when they with the minister drove the short distance, south of Leedcey to the Dewey-Custer County Line and there on the Custer County side of the road the marriage vows were read, an all ended beautifully! Two daughters, Floren and Irene, were born to Mr. and Mrs. McRee. In 1924, in a little rural school house, shoutheast of Leedey, Mr. McRee dedicated his life to the Lord and to his service. He became a minister of the Missionary Baptist Church. Through the many years of this ministry, he has served in many churches throughout Oklahoma, including Three Corner, Liberty Center, Moorewood, Stafforde, Carnegie, Geary, Gerty, Westville, Morris, Mountain View, and Allen, retiring from the Allen Missionary Baptist in 1970. In 1955, Mrs. McRee passed away, and later, Rev. McRee was married to Maudie Baker, of Clinton, Oklahoma, who worked by his side until her death in 1983. Rev McRee was united in marriage to Ella Bedscom in 1984. Ella passed away in 1988, and at this time Rev McRee moved back to Leedey. Throughout his life, he enjoyed the love and fellowship of people. After recently returning to Leedey, he became a member of the Leedey Senior Citizens, enjoying the fellowship of these many friends. He always enjoyed gardening, and he was an avid basketball fan. His family andr his Christian Faith were his main incentives in life. His grandchildren were special to him and deeply loved. Rev. McRee was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rebecca McRee, one brother, Walter, two sisters, Susie Robbins, and Mamie Cain, and the devoted wives who had assisted him in his ministry. Surviving are two daughters, Florene Emmons, of Leedey, and Irene Creswell of Hammon, one brother Jim McRee of Elk City, ten grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and numberious friends.
