Monroe, a former resident of this city, and pioneer in Oklahoma died suddenly at his son, Lloyd Monroe home east of Sayre last Friday. Mr. Monroe resided in this county for many years having settled on a homestead on Dead Indian creek north of town, later he moved to this city where he became engaged in the hotel business, later he removed to Custer county. Mr. Monroe was a good citizen, believing in law and order and everything that wento to build up a better moral condition. He was well known to many of our people who will regret very much to learn of his sudden death. At the time of Mr. Monroe's deat he was walking around with a lady and was showing her the stock about the place when he fell dead. It is conceded that his trouble was heart failure, probably caused by paralysis of the heart, as the end came instantaneous, never breathing after he fell. N.R. Monroe was born in Florence, Alabama, April 4, 1851, died suddenly at Sayre, Oklahoma, December 13, 1923 age 72 years 8 months and 9 daysa. He married Julia Young in 1876, in Perry county, Tennessee. To this union were born five sons, Dennie, John, Orville, Grover, Lloyd, and he was the step father of Mrs. S.E. Tracy of this city, Florence Howard, Docia Monroe and Bettie Kelley. He leaves to mourn his loss all of thws above children and a widow. All of these were present at his funeral, excep Mrs. Howard. In addition to these Tennie Monroe and wife, a nephew of Dalhart, Texas, were present at the funeral. His funeral services were conducted by the Methodist pastor at Sayre Sunday afternoon and he was buried in the Sayre cemetery by the Masonic lodge. A very large crowd attended his funeral and a great number of beautiful flowers were placed on his casket and grave.
