Moore, a former Cheyenne pioneer, who passed away at his home 1708 N.W. Seventh Street, Oklahoma City, February 19, 1951 were held at the Perrine Funeral Chapel with burial in Memorial Park of that city. The Reverend Jessie L. Ragan of Drumright officiated. James J. Moore was born June 27, 1870 at Sivels Bend, Cook County, Texas, son of Ransom and Margaret C. Moore. He was the third of eight children, all having preceded him in death. Mr. Moore came to Cheyenne about 1893 and was an early day deputy sheriff serving under the late Charley Thompson. He came on horseback and from the time he left Arapaho until he arrived in Cheyenne he saw just one white man and one dug-out. He filed on a claim southwest of Cheyenne and later worked in the Herring & Young store. Jimmie, as he was called by his many friends, was a Cheyenne resident until he and his family moved to Strong City at the time the town site of Strong City was laid out in 1912. On November 24, 1904 he was married to Miss Mamie Jordan in Elk City. While they made their home there, three children were born. James J. Jr., Ferris and a daughter _____(can't read) being born in Strong City. While living in Strong City he was engaged in the real estate and insurance business and was active in the civic affairs of that town and the state. Mr. Moore moved with his family to Elk City, Oklahoma in August of 1932 and when he moved to Oklahoma City where he retired from active business. He was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage in February, 1943, however, he recovered sufficiently to be able to get around nicely with the assistance of some of his family until July 1945, when he fell and broke his hip and was bedfast until his death. He was a friends to all and loved by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband ands father and will be truly missed by his loved ones. Besides the widow and children mentioned he is survived by eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Cheyenne survivors include three nieces, Mrs. Dean Cross, Mrs. Murl Lester and Mrs. C. W. Lester. Pallbearers for the funeral services were Curtis Guernsey, Floyd Wheeler, Hoyt Little, J. Bert Pierce, Sr., Ted Dunn and Jack Powers of Oklahoma City. All but one were former Cheyenne and Strong City friends. Bob Lester, formerly of Cheyenne, furnished Highway Patrol escort.
