Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on January 2, 2004, at The First Baptist Church, Cheyenne, with the Rev. Tim Privratsky of Dickinson, North Dakota officiating. Internment was at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Cheyenne. Mrs. Myers moved from Cheyenne to Dickinson, North Dakota, in the summer of 1994 to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Myers. She had been a resident of St. Benedict's Nursing Home for the past three years and nine months. Jewel was born in the Pie Flat area of western Oklahoma, on January 7, 1916, the second of four children, to Dan and Lula Cline. She attended schools in the Crawford school district, graduating from Crawford High School in 1936. In Octoberr of 1937, she married the late Roy L. Myers and they lived in the Crawford community until 1950. In the summer of that year, Jewel, Roy and their two sons, Danny and Gene moved to White Deere, Texas. Three years later they moved to Perryton, Texas and in 1959, they returned to Cheyenne, where Roy passed away in December 1961. Jewel worked as a retail clerk at the Cheyenne Drug Store for some 20 years prior to her retirement in 1986. She was active in church and community affairs in Cheyenne, while also traveling extensively prior to, and following, her retirement. She visited sites from the White Mountains of New Hampshire to Disney World on the East Coast, and from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, to the Grand Canyon on the West Coast. In 1982, accompanied by longtime friend Veta Pearl Barton, she visited her son Danny and his family, then living on the island of Guam in the Western Pacific. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Cheyenne and before moving away, was known by virtually everyone in the community. She will be remembered as a very kind, compassionate, caring lady who put her faith and family first. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Myers was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and Jack Cline of Los Angeles, California and one sister, Madelyn Turner of Bishop, California. She is survived by two sons, Danny Myers of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Gene Myers of Dickinson, North Dakota; three grandchildren: Debra Krebs and Kasey Myers of Dickinson, North Dakota; and Lisa Myers, of Charleston, South Carolina.
