Services were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the First Christian church with Rev. Kenneth Garrison officiating. Born July 7, 1893 at Commerce, Texas, Mr. Mercer resided there until entering service in the US armed forces he moved to Sayre in 1926 from Dallas, Texas. He was married September 17, 1920 to Ora Lee Davidson, McKinney, Texas. He was a former member of the American Legion and a member of the Christian church fifty years. He was formerly a cement and concrete construction worker. Survivors are his wife of the home; two daughters, Mrs. J.C. Rogers, Cheyenne, Mrs. Jean Headen, Dallas, Texas; three sons, Fred, Jr., of Hereford, Texas, Jack of Sayre, James Lee of Pomona, California; 14 grandchildren; five brothers, Walter of Greenwood, Ind., Mike of Plainfield, Ind, Jim of Corpus Christi, Texas, Sam of Venezuela, South America, E.D. of Charlotte, North Carolina. Interment was in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral service.
