The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ====================================================================== Francis Almiron (Smokey) Merwin, 64, was born January 3, 1922 in Morland, Kansas to Samuel Egbert and Lanora May Merwin and passed away Sunday, January 5, 1986 in the Newman Memorial Hospital of Shattuck, Oklahoma following an extended illness. Mr. Merwin moved to Boise City, Oklahoma with his parents as a small child. He lived for several years in Kansas working with the railroad. Smokey lived for a few years in Dalhart, Texas before moving to Cheyenne in 1977 to make his home. He had been a member of the Baptist Church. Those who preceded him ind eath were his parents, one sister and two brothers. Survivors include 8 nieces, Margie Ritchie of San Antonio, Texas; Doris Anthony of Gorham, Kansas; Lanora Matney of Pawnee Park, Kansas; Anna Mae Kramer of Great Bend, Kansas; Bertha Strickert of Great Bend, Kansas; Billie Frazier, Jackie Wiedman and Judy Jones, all of Dalhart, Texas; 5 nephews, Sam Merwin of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, Jerry Merwin of Betty, Texas; Keith Merwin of San Antonio, Texas; Sam Rayburn of Seward, Kansas; Cecil Merwin of Dalhart, Texas; also a number of great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 7, 1986 at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Cheyenne with Aubrey Cowan officiating. Graveside services were in the Boise City Cemetery, Wednesday, at 2:00 p.m. with interment following. Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Cheyenne was in charge of arrangements. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK
