He was born in Perryton, Texas in 1933 to Urmal and George Mixon. He received his pilot's license at age 17 and thus began his lifelong love of aviation. He bought a 1940's Aeronica, but did not get to fly it as often as he liked because he could not afford the gasoline. He joined the Army in 1951 and served his country in Korea. In 1955 he met and courted his future wife, Rose Marie Estes at Panhandle State. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Law in 1960 and was an avid Sooner fan his entire life. He spent his professional career in oil and gas for Texaco, Kilroy and Unocal. He was a member of Ft. Bend Country Club for 36 years. His passion for flying led him to obtain a commercial and multi- engine pilot's license and instrument rating. He owned many planes includcing an UltraLight Quicksilver, Breezy Cessna 206, AirCam (which he built himself), Cessna 310, L-29 fight jet, and the Sport Star Plusx LSA. Every summer for the last 12 years he has neighbors the EAAA Air-venture convention in Osh Kosh, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rose Marie Mixon, daughters, Cindy Mixon and Lori Collins; grandchildren, Daniel and Sara Collins and Brian Collins; and great grandchildren, James and Malay Collins. Services were held Sunday Junr 6, 2010 in the Chapel of Davis- Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in memory of Marvin to the EAA Young Eagles Development, PO Box 3086, Osh Kosh, WI 54903.
