Mr. Nelson was born on March 5, 1951 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma, the son of George and Velma Isbelle Nelson. Following high school he served three tours in Vietnam in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Rollin Oak, Oklahoma. He was a loving brother and father, and loved to fish and work on model cars. He is survived by three children of the home, John Fred Nelson, Jr., Sharon Dean Nelson, and Phillip Nelson; four brothers, George E. Nelson of Marietta, Oklahoma, Charles Nelson of Allison, Texas, James O. Nelson of Eucha, and Joseph W. Nelson of New Braunnfels, Texas; seven sisters, Betty Mitchell of Ft. Worth, Texas, Agnes Long of Hico, Texs, Emily Brock of Boyd, Texas, Anne Sanderson of Ft. Worth, Texas, Lynette Sproles of Azle, Texas, Barbara Weatherly of Boyd, Texas, and Darla Davis of Lake Woth, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. His parents and a sister, Margie Pruitt preceded him in death. A memorial service was held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Langley.
