Ray O. Oakley was born on June 22, 1922 at Beatrice, Nebraska and died on July 7, 1944 at Leghorn, Italy. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Breezy Meadow. Ray came to Roll, Oklahoma in 1931 from Texas and lived there until he enlisted in the Army. He attended Breezy Meadows school and Crawford high school. He was a member of Combat Engineer Co. , 19th Engineers. He enlisted at Oklahoma City on June 1, 1940, and received training at Fort Ord, California. Her went overseas in August, 1942. Cpl. Oakley was wounded in the Tunisan Campaign on March 31, 1943, and spent eleven months in the hospital. He leaves to mourn his mother, Mrs. Lenora J. Bullock, Sayre his step-father, E.B. Bullock, Sayre; and one sister, Miss Billie Jean Bullock, also of Sayre. Services will be in the First Baptist Church at Sayre, Oklahoma at a date to be announced later. Rev. J. A. Jones will have charge with the American Legion of Cheyenne. Interment will be in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery, Sayre, Beckham County, Okalhoma. Ray Oakley will be held next Sunday afternoon at the Doxey cemetery with the Cheyenne American Legion Post in charge of services., Cpl. Oakley body will arrive from overseas in Sayre, Saturday, December 4th, 1948 at 4:28 p.m. according to information received by the Scroggins Funeral Home. Services will be held Sunday in the Sayre Baptist church.
