He died February 19, 1946, at Amarillo, Texas. He was educated in Texas having finished two years at Polytechnic College at Ft. Worth. In 1897 Mr. Owen came to Oklahoma and taught school at Redmoon. He and Phoebe Frances Cann were married March 20, 1898 and from then until a few months ago they lived on their homedstead near Reydon. Their first child, Harold, died in infancy. The other children are: Alfred Owen, of Reydon; Mrs. Ray Cole, Cheyenne; Mrs. Jim Baker, Amarillo, Texas; Mrs. Lee Pryor, Canadian, Texas; Mrs. L.J. Watson, Mrs. Pat McCormick and Mrs. Tommy Copeland of Amarillo, Texas; Mrs. S.B. Hale, Jr., Spearman, Texas. Mr. Owen became a member of the Methodist church at an early age and continued to be active in church work as long as his health permitted. For many years he was superintendent of the Union Sunday School at Hamburg and was clerk of the school board in their school district for as long as his children were in school. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Phoebe Owen, by eight children, and ten grandchildren, one of whom made his home with his grandparents, and by a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Cheyenne Wednesday afternoon, Feburary 20, 1946 after which committal was in the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Rev. R.O. Stewart, local pastor, delivered the funeral sermon in the presence of a large crowd of relatives and friends. Pall bearers were Al Hammond, Milford Shaw, Frank Cole, Boyd Fair, Doc Fox and Dick Ivy. The Tunnard Funeral Home directed the burial service.
