Petersen On Sunday, August 6, 1961, friends, neighbors and relatives gathered in the Reydon community building to pay their last respects to one of the old time settlers of this community. John H. Petersen, born Hans Johannas Petersen, in Huson Schlieswig- Holstein Province, Germany, on September 2, 1882, son of Claus H. and Marie Petersen. The family came to America in 1888 and settled briefly on a farm in Nebraska, moving to Oklahoma City in 1892. He came to Roger Mills County on July 4, 1906, and settled in the Rankin community. On December 22, 1915, he was united in marriage to Arla R. Reynolds at Dempsey, Oklahoma. They moved to their present homesite where they have resided ever since. He was a member of the Uniterian Church and belonged to the IOOF and Rebekah Lodge of Reydon. He departed this life on August 2, 1961 in the Community Hospital of Elk City, at the age of 78 years and 11 months, after a short illness. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mrs. Arla R. Petersen of the home address. One daughter, Mrs. G.L. Newsom of Kansas City, Kansas; two sons, John R. Petersen of Reydon and Glen G. of the U.S. Air Force stationed in Germany; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Hutchens of Pampa, Texas; Mrs. Maggie Vincent of Greensburg, Kansas and Mrs. Augusta Weller of Silversprings, Maryland. Three brogthers, Henry of Oklahoma City; Bill of Riverside, California, and Tom of Wichita, Kansas. A host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was a kind, loving husband father and grandfather and a friend to all in time of need. He was laid to rest in the White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Moore Funeral Home. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK
