Laird Hospital. He had been ill two months. A retired farmer, Mr. Powell moved to Laird Hill 18 years ago from Hammon, Oklahoma. He was born June 14, 1861, at Douglas, Lousiana. He was the father of W.L. Powell and Miss Viola Powell, both of Kilgore, and of Mrs. Earl Phinnie, Laird Hill, with whom he lived. He was a member of the Baptist church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Rader Funeral Home chapel. Officiating minister was Rev. V.M. Nipper, pastor of the Laird Hill Baptist church, who was assisted by O.E. Miller of the Laird Hill Churcch of Christ. Pallbearers were G.L. Bonner, L.B. Gilbert, J.G. Sullivan, Jim Nelson, Roy Rogerson and Frank Hunter. Burial was in Kilgore cemetery. Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, who lives at Laird Hill; seven sons, G.J., Beaumont; J.A., San Antonio; J.R., Ennis; F.W. and Lloyd, Hammon, Oklahoma; H.B., Elk City, and W.L. Powell, Kilgore; five daughters, Mrs. Paul Watson, Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Jessie Reddell, Oklahoma City; Mrs. George Taylorf, Chicago; Mrs. Earl Phinnie, Laird Hill, and Miss Viola Powell, Kilgore; 27 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
