Provines was born July 17, 1907 to James Wesley and Mettie Provines near Rankin, Oklahoma Territory. He died March 13, 1992 in Wichita, Kansas. He lived in Whichita the past 50 years where he worked for Beoing for a while and retired from Wichita-Sedgwick County Department of Community Health. Survivors are his wife Frances of the home, a son, Wesley Eugene Provines of Wichita; and a daughter, June Griffin of Waurika, Oklahoma. A sister, Helen Turbyfill of Sequim, Washington and a brother Loyd Provines of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Four step children, 13 step grandchildren and 16 step great grandchildren. Services were in the Broadway Christian Church March 25, 1992 with Brother Gary Ledbetter, officiating. Burial was White Chapel Memorial Garden. Garndsons were pallbearers. Robert Provines was a uncle of Bula May Sides of Durham, Gertrude Flesher of Cheyenne and Russell Clay of Reydon.
