He passed away February 27, 2010, at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 7 days. Percy grew up as the sixth child in a family of nine children. He loved and supported his family in the many areas of farm life. They lived less than a mile from the cousins, the Dodds. Both families continued to share stories of childhood memories at family reunions through the years. Percy began school at a little country school within a couple of miles of his home, but his education was completed when he graduates from Reydon High School in 1939. He continued to help his parents on the family farm until he entered the service on February 10, 1942. He served 19 months in Italy as a member of the 747 Bomb Squad of the 456 Bomb Group of the United States Air Force during World War II. He married Iris Elsie (Turbyfill) Pennington at New Liberty, Oklahoma on May 15, 1942. After his discharge in September of 1945, Percy and Iris settled in Sayre where he worked at the Sayre Lumberyard. Six months after their son, Larry, was born, they purchased the Kenneth Ballard farm and moved back to Roger Mills County. A daughter, Charlene, was born and two years later a second son, Don completed the family. Percy continued to farm and ranch for many years. The family moved into Reydon in 1958. Percy was Mayor of Reydon and served on the Town Board for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Parker, Cliff, Dee, and Earl Pennington, and one sister, Irma Womack. After Iris's death in 1997, he enjoyed the companionship of Geraldine Bruner of Erick who also preceded him in death. Survivors include 1 daughter, Charles Heronema and husband Kenneth, 2 sons, Larry and wife Pauline, Don and wife Nelda all of Reydon, Oklahoma, 5 grandchildren, Neal Pennington and wife Darla, Marty Pennington and wife Stephanie all of Elk City, Oklahoma, Perry and wife Melody of Reydon, Oklahoma. Gayla Smith and husband Keith of Sweetwater, Oklahoma and Judith Herren and husband Jamey of Yukon, Oklahoma, 8 great-grandchildren, Summer and Max Pennington, Jayden, Chance, and Tanner Smith, Marli and Rylan Pennington and Cooper Pennington, 1 brother, Pascal "Pac" Pennington of Fritch, Texas. 2 sisters, Aubra Pennington of Watonga, Evelyn Baker and husband C.B. "Snip" of Fay, Oklahoma, 1 sister-in-law Norma Pennington of Chandler, Oklahoma and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held March 3, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Reydon Community Building officiated by Rev. Ron Henning. Burial was at White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Services.
