Pickering was born November 24, 1928 in Mayfield, Oklahoma to Mary Ann and Floyd Baxter Alexander. She passed away july 9, 2011 at her home near Mayfield, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 15 days. Imogene grew up on the Mayfield Community where she attended school until it closed. She then transferred to Sweetwater School where she graduated in 1946. Imogene continued her education at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee where she met the love of her life, Raymond Pickering, thet were married on Mayt 23, 1952. Imogene received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from OBU then taught for a year in Missouri. After their marriage, they lived in Orr, Oklahoma and she taught school at Simon, Oklahoma. During her professional career she taught at Ft. Hancock, Texas, Stebbins, AK, Reydon, OK and Sweetwater, OK. They lived in Reydon, Oklahomna for a short time before moving to Alaska. In 1962 they moved to Mayfield to make their home. After Imogene retired from teaching, she was employed as the secretary at Sweetwater School. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Raymond Alexander, and a niece, Mary Annette Gilliam. She is survived by her husband, Raymond, of the home, her children, Flod Pickering and wife, Nola, Mayfield, OK, Cheryl Layfield, Mayfield, OK, 3 grandchildren, Jesse Wester, Lincoln, AL, Sarah Grant and husband, Ben, Mayfield, OK, 3 great grandchildren, Cara and Haley Grant, and Garyson Webster, 1 brother, Charles Alexander and wife, Betty, Benbrook, TX; a sister-in-law, June Alexander, Lawrence, IN, 8 nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be held July 13, 2011 at 10:00 am at Sweetwater First Baptist Church officiated by Ed Wrather and Charles Alexander. Burial will be at Buffalo Cemetery under the direction of Fatheree-Albert Funeral Honme.
