His folks made their home in Hobart Township until John was sixteen years old at which time they moved to Phillips County where he resided with his folks. In 1910 he went to Woodward, Oklahoma to stay with his sister Bertha and husband until the spring of 1912 when he started to farm for himself. He was united in marriage to Jannett Morgan February 24, 1913. There were no children born to this union. They made their home on his homestead in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma until 1918. He bought a neighboring farm where he made his home until his death at Plainville hospital July 30, 1965 at the age of 80 years 5 months and 2 days. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and one brother Will. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Jannett of the home in Stockton, one brother Ben of Stockton and three sisters, Amy Smith, Bertha Athatson of Phillipsburg and Rosa Wells of McPherson. Also a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers were old friends and neighbors from one family in Oklahoma were requested to do this last favor of John. There were as follows: Royal Bullard, Cecil Bullard, Carl Bullard, Hester Bullard, Ovel Bullard and Floyd Barton.
