All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Surnames: Raff, Acker Originally posted at: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5YB.2ACE/6884 A number of relatives and friends from Durham went to Hooker, Oklahoma, Tuesday August 17th, 1948 to attend the funeral services of Kenneth Raff, who was killed in an automobile accident at Liberal, Kansas Sunday, August 15th, 1948. According to the Hooker Advocate, five persons, including Kenneth Raff and Edward Acker, both of Hooker were killed in one of the worst automobile tragedies in years. Mrs. Kenneth Raff is in a Liberal, Kansas hospital in a serious condition. Both of her legs are broken above the knee and she has serious chest injuries and cuts and bruises of the head. The Chevrolet pickup occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Raff and her brother, Edward Acker had just left the outskirts of Liberal, Kansas and was traveling at a low rate of speed on the extreme right side of the highway when a Buick car struck it. The Buick was traveling at a high rate of speed, according to officials, and its left front fender struck the pickup just in front of the left front door. Both vehicles were reduced to bits of rubble. Immediately after the collision two ambulances from Liberal, Kansas took the three from the Buick, Acker and Mrs. Raff to a hospital where all but Mrs. Raff died almost immediately. The body of Kenneth Raff was not discovered until later when a small boy found it in a deep ditch. Joint funeral services were held at Hooker for Kenneth Raff and his brother-in-law Edward Acker, under the auspice of the American Legion. Kenneth C. Raff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Raff was born at Durham, Oklahoma April 1, 1918 and passed away August 15, 1948 at the age of 30 years, 4 months and 14 days. He was married to Rose Acker July 18, 1939. To this union three children were born, Charlie, Eddie and Wanda Rose. He was inducted into the service May 5, 1944 and received his honorable discharge November 1944. Besides his wife and three children he leaves to mourn his passing his parents, six brothers, four sisters and a host of other relatives.
