He spent his childhood in Virginia and came to Oklahoma territory while a young man, taught school in Eastern Oklahoma for a number of years and came to Western Oklahoma and filed on his homestead nine miles southwest of Cheyenne, where he resided and raised a family, until 1937 when he went to California. He raised three daughters and one son who preceded him in death. He was well known all over the county, having served as county commissioner in 1913. He was also well known for his very active work in the Farmers Union. He leaves his three daughters, Lillie Ostrander, Pearl Parker and Ruth Gambill, all of Los Angeles and five grandchildren.
