He departed this life on January 6, 2000 in the Great Plains Regional Medical Center of Elk City, Oklahoma. Lester was 92 years and 10 months of age. When Lester was born, he was welcomed by an older brother, Everett Wilson, who was just 2 years old. While life was difficult on a farm in those days, it became even more so after Wilson and Lester's father died suddenly on October 13, 1912. The boys were just seven and a half and five and one half years old and they had to grow up quickly to hlep their mother welcome the new baby brother, Lowell Dewey, who was born March 17, 1913. Lester attended school at Aledo and Butler. He became a Christian at an early age, being baptized in the First Christian Church of Aledo. He later transferred his memership to the First United Methodist Church in Leedey. In 1929 Lester married Clemmie Higgins. One son, Lester Dean, was born to them in 1930. In 1946 they moved from their first home together in Aledo to their farm home just on the south side of Leedey. Clemmie passed away in 1961. In 1966 Lester married Aubrey Buchanan. They resided together at the Leedey home as long as their health allowed. Lester loved to farm and took great pride in caring for his cattle and land. He was a talented carpenter and, with his brother Lowell, built many homes in the Leedey area. One of their greatest joys was working with the congregation of their home church when the new sanctuary was built in 1966. Though Lester couldn't contribute his carpentering skills with the recently constructed fellowship hall, he was so happy to see the new project when it was finished. He was so proud of his fellow church members for this achievement. Alfter Lester's first retirement from farming and carpentering, he worked another fifteen years at the Leedey Lumber Company. He loved visiting with the people that came to select materials for their building projects and they had every confidence in his help and advice. To know Lester was to know that his favorite pastime and recreation was a game of dominoes. He enjoyed the Leedey Recreation Parolor and played with his friends as often as possible. He taught all his grandchildren to play the game and then his great grandchildren. He was always ready to challenge somebody to dominoes. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Lizzie, by his stepfather, Carl Roundtree, and by his brothers, Wilson and lowell. He will truly be missed by his beloved wife Aubrey, his son and daughter-in-law Dean and Darlene Rounds; by his step-son and wife, Keith and lyndal Buchanan; his grandchildren, Renee and Steve Casey, Jamie Rounds, Kevin Rounds, Beth and Bob Walls, Buck and Dania Buchanan and Tad Buchanan; by great grandchildren, Megan and Bryan Casey, Angela Rounds, Gregg Rounds, Jake Clawson, Katy and Jeremy Walls, Jorden Buchanan and Makena and Jenna Buchanan; by his sister- in-law, Johnnie Rounds; by a number of nephews, nieces and other relatives, and by many beloved friends.
