Vern moved with his family to Elk City in the late 1970's. On April 16, 2000 he married Viola Faye Boese at Elk City, Oklahoma where they remained to make their home. Vern had a long career in law enforcement and served on the police force in Cheyenne, Erick and Canute. Vern loved riding his Harley and spending time with his extended family of brothers and sisters of the Christian Motorcycle Association and the Downed Biker's Association. He served as the Chaplain with the Western Plains Downers Bikers Association and as a Road Captain for both the CMA and DBA area chapters. Vern had a passion for music and was very talented in both vocals and playing various instruments. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lee. He is survived by his wife, Viola, of the home; 1 daughter, Melissa Boecker and husband, Tom, Cordell, Oklahoma; 1 son, Cory Rich and wife, Amber, Cordell, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren, Allison, Cade and Addison, a granddaughter on the way, Mackenzie; 1 brother, Richard Rich and wife, Judy, Highland, California; his niece, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held April 27, 2010 at 11:00 am at Whinery-Savage Chapel officiated by Elizabeth Newman.
