Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 1989 at the Erick Cemetery with James Medlock officiating. Services were under the direction of Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home of Erick. Jack, the son of Ira and Edna Francis Speed, was born March 6, 1917 in Alpine, Texas. He moved with his parents to Texola where he spent most of his childhood and graduated from Texola High School. He moved to California and later to Arizona where he married Flossie Jean Bearden in Flagstaff, Arizona, on July 8, 1942. After serving the Army, Jack owned a furniture store in Phoenix before moving to Abilene, Texas, in 1953 where he began working in the oil industry. In 1958 they moved to Erick to make their home and Jack continued working in the oil and gas business until his death. He was a member of the Texola Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Flossie Jean; one daughter and son-in- law, Pat and Philip Gibson of Norman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Nyla Speed of Erick and Jerry and Denise Speed of Mustang; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Billie Speed of Phoenix, Arizona, and Ed and Carol Speed of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Emily Elizabeth Rankin of Laguna Hills, California; two granddaughters, Kimberly and Holly Gibson; six grandsons, Shawn Gibson, Joe, Joe Dell, Landon, Churck and Phillip Speed; one great grandson, Logan Gibson; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
