Shipman was born September 27, 1926 in Sweetwater to Matilda and Thomas Shipman and died Wednesday October 6, 1999 in the Great Plain Regional Medical Center at the age of 73. Virgal grew up in the New Liberty community where he attended school. He enlised in the U.S. Army and servede towards the end of World War II. After his discharge, he returned to Sayre before being recalled and serving his country during the Korean War. He later worked on a ranch in Nebraska before going to work in the oilfields in west Texas. After his retirement, he made his home in Sayre. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Lee Ray Shipman, Audie Shipman; one sister Florence Brimer; and one brother, Luther Shipman. Graveside servicesw will be 3 p.m., Friday at the Carter Cemetery officiated by Stan Baker. Arrangements are under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Survivors include: one son, Donnie Tiller of Sayre; two sisters, Mamie Criswell, Lillian Farrel both of Sayre; one brother, Ralph Shipman of Childress, Texas; and two grandchildren.
