He died on September 4, 1948 at Colony, Oklahoma. He was seriously ill since Wednesday of the past week. Rev. H.O. Lee of Moorewood and Rev. R.C. Dickey of Weatherford were in charge of the rites. The deceased was born on June 21, 1875, at Ben Blickin, Texas. He was married to Genery Orgain at San Angelo, Texas, on June 21, 1915. He camed to Colony two months ago to visit his daughter, Mrs. Otis Quattlebaum, at whose residence he passed away. He was a member of the Moorewood Baptist church. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Ione C. Spears of Espanola, Arizona, Charles W. Spears of Tucson, Arizona, James D. Spears of Espanola, New Mexico; three step-children, Johnny Martin of Tulsa, Mrs. Inez Gamel of Okmulgee and Mrs. Otis Quattlebaum of Colony; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Interment was made in the Canute cemetery under the direction of Martin- Hullum funeral directors.
