Born March 22, 1924, in Ozark, he was the son of the lated James Rufus and Ola Swearingin Sossamon. He was retired businessman, a veteran of the Army Air Force and a Baptist. Sossamon was a past president of the Ozark Chamber of Commerce and a former member of Ozark Kiwanis Club, Ozark Lions Club and Ozark Rotary Club. He was active in the Little League baseball program in San Dimas, California. Survivors include his wife, Dona Lou Hartley Sossamon; one daughter, Barbara Smith of St. Joseph, Michigan; one son, David of Van Buren; five stepchildren; his step-mother, Lottie Sossamonj of Ozark; two sisters, Gelen Jeffers and Alma Ruth McCain, both of Ozark; two brothers, Bill and Jack Sossamon, both of Ozark; 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ozark Assembly of God Church, with Rev. Kemp Holden and Rev. Bill Calwell officiating. Burial was at Highland Cemetery, under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Gary and Larry Hood, and Greg, Jeff, Wayne and Bill Mac Sossamon. Honorary pallbearers were Fritz Alston, Harley Jeffers, Clitton Mainard, Jim Mainard, Lonnie Turner, John Robison, Billy Trotter, Cas Wagner, Rick Doss, Bud Hawkins, Bill McCain, Al Torrea, James Nichols, Landy Doyel Sr., Jerry Hamel, Marshall Chrisman, Bryan Hood and Mike Womack.
