"Lem" Shugart was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 3, 1900 to Ulia Teague Shugart and Jess L. Shugart. He departed this life on March 5, 1990 in Fillmore, California. In 1901, when Lem was about one year old, the family moved from Fort Worth, Texas to Cordell, Oklahoma. Later they moved to the Crawford/Roll community, Roger Mills County, OK, where his father Jess L. Shugart, homesteaded on 160 acres. Lem and his brothers and sisters grew up in the Crawford/Roll community. On August 9, 1920, he married Cora Daniel of Hereford, Texas. They later moved to Oklahoma for a few years then back to Amarillo, Texas where they resided most of their lives. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August 1970. Cora passed from this life in November 1981. Following his wife's death, Lem went to live with his daughter, Elma Combs in Santa Paula, California. He departed this life on March 5, 1990 at a nursing home in Fillmore, California. Lem Shugart was preceded in death by three brothers, Orphit, Jess and Andy. Surviving sisters are: Mrs. Farry Ann Shugart Davis, of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Mrs. Lyda Shugart Warren of Colorado Springs, Colorad. Also surviving is his daughter, Elma Combs of Santa Pauls, California; one grandson, Bruce, of Tucson, Arizona; one granddaughter, Iva Lynn of California; also three great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. E.L. McDaniel and Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Garling of Cheyenne attended a memorial service for O.L.Shugart at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Amarillo, Texas on Saturday, March 10, 1990. Officiating at the service was Dr. Harold Daniel (nephew), Associate minister, Polk Street United Methodist Church, Amarillo, Texas. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK
