All five died in a pre-dawn fire that swept through their trailer house east of John Day, Oregon, on Christmas Day. Mr. Skidgel and his wife, the former Emily Kay Asselin, were Bend High School graduates and were members of the Lutheran Church, attending in both Bend and John Day. Mrs. Skiegel is survived by her father, Dick Asseln, and a sister, Karen Asseln, both of Bend, Oregon who escaped from the burning trailer house. Her mother, Gina C. Asseln, died last January 9, 1974.. Mr. Skidgel was born February 28, 1943 in Eugene, Oregon. His wife was born December 26, 1942, in Bend, Oregon. The children were all born in Bend, on the following dates: Darcey Kay, July 6, 1964; Darren, April 3, 1967; Denise, July 22, 1969. Mr. Skidgel's survivors include his father and stepmother, Dale and Minnie Skidgel, of LaPine, and Prairie City, and two sisters, Mrs. Gloria Jean Pope, Laramie, Wyoming, and Ruth Ann Fischer, in the U.S. Navy stationeed at San Diego.
