She passed from this life Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at the Great Plains Regional Hospital of Elk City, Oklahoma. She was 87 years, 11 months and 12 days of age at the time of her passing. Edith was raised in the Moorewood area and graduated from Mooreoow High School. She was united in marriage to C.F. "Doc" Steele on December 5, 1931, and they was blessed with three sons Charles, Jessie and John. They made their first home in the Moorewood community unil 1941 when they moved to Leedey, Oklahoma. She was first a member of the Moorewood Batpist Church and attended the First Bapitst Church of Leedey following their move there. Edith loved caring for her home and family while Doc farmed. Her favorite pasttimes were crocheting, playing cards with friends, and fishing. She was also a member of the Haycreek Homemakers club and enjoyed this fellowship with her friends. She was accomplished as a cook and baker and especially enjoyed baking wedding cakes. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren eventually became one of the highest priorities in Edith's life. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Alice Stultz; two sons, Jessie and John Steele; and one grandchild, Charmaine Renee Steele. Edith is survived by her devoted husband, Doc, of the home; one son, Charles Steele and his wife, Judy, of Yukon, Oklahoma; by her grandchildren, Charlotte Shefield, Robin Hammer, Mark Steele, and Mike Steele; by eight great grandchildren, Braydon Steele, Tricia Maupin, Natalie Steele, Lauren Steele, Jordan Steele, Griffin Steele, Cameron Burwell and Anthony Burwell; by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jessie (Donna) Steele; by one sister Maxine Chastain; other loved ones and a host of friends.
