Steele was born April 14, 1936 in Hammon, Oklahoma to Esteline and Tip Hammons. She passed away November 6, 2003 in the Integris Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 67 years 6 months and 22 days. Mona grew up in Hammon and graduated from Hammon High School. She was marriewd to Willis Wilford Steele at Hammon, Oklahoma on February 21, 1952 and they lived in the Hammon and Leedey communities before mov ing to Elk City in 1954. They returned to Leedey in 1975 where she owned and operated Steele's Cafe. They later moved to Butler and lived on the farm for 4 years before coming back to Elk City to make their home. Mona liked cats and had a fondness for stary animals. In addition to Willis, who passed away in September of this year, she was preceded a death by her parents, husband, one brother, two sisters and two granddaughters. She is survived by two sons, Rick Stelle, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Billy Steele and wife, Becky of Elk City, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Ricky Steele, Jr., Teri Wilson; one great grandchild, Steven Steele; one brother, Veryl Hammons, Warr Acres, Oklahoma, and a host off relatives and friends. Graveside services were held Monday, November 10, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery, Leedey, Dewey County, Oklahoma. Arrangements were under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Services.
