Selby, 83 , Satanta, Kansas, died Tuesday afternoon at the Satanta District Hospital, Satanta, Kansas. The son of Oliver F. and Lottie Lonore Smith Selby, he was born August 11, 1911, at Durham, Oklahoma. He grew up in Durham area and attended school there. He and Doris G. Gates were married on July 23, 1936 at Sayre, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on Feburary 23, 1975. They moved to Satanta, Kansas in 1953 from Strong City, Oklahoma. He loved his familyand enjoyed the family gaterings they had. He enjoyed dancing and the waltz was one of his favorites. He enjoyed fishing and camping in Colorado with his son, David. His daughter, Wanda moved back to Satanta to help take care of her Dad, since October 1992. He worked for the United Carbon Company for four years then he worked for Les McDonald in the elevator and the farm until his retirement. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Satanta, Kansas; Happy Agers Site, Satanta, Kansas. He was a Champion Golfer and bowler and domino player, and he won several Western Kansas Horsehoe tournaments. Survivors include one son, David Selby and wife, Vicki, Denver, Colorado; one daughter, Wanda Schwandner, Satanta, Kansas; brother, Alonzo Selby, Ingleside, Texas; three sisters, Bessie Willis, Elk City, Oklahoma, Nettie Swopes, Brush, Colorado, and Mabel Swopes, Elk City, Oklahoma; four grandsons, Mike Schwandner, Marc Schwandner, Henry Schwandner and Steven Selby; two great grandsons, Jaxon and Jeremy Swandner; and one great granddaughter, Kristen Schwandner. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Selby; three brothers, Warren Selby, Dillard Selby and Shorty Selby and one sister, Viola Samples. Graveside services were held on Friday, July 28, 1995 at 10:00 a.m. at the Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta, Kansas with Rev. Kip Phyherd presiding and burial followed. A memorial has been established for the Happy Agers Site, Satanta. Memorial may be left at the Shoppin Stop True Value, Stanta, or the funeral home.
