Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, May 15, 1940 at the 
Dempsey school house for Mrs. Sarah Margaret Sawin, wife of John Waldo 
Sawin, pioneer resident of this section, who died Monday, 11, 1940, at the 
home of her son, at Nogales, Arizona.

The rites were conducted by Rev. Garlin Wilson of Elk City, assisted by 
Rev. S.F. Lancaster. Burial in Dempsey cemetery, Roger Mills county, 
Oklahoma.

Sarah Margaret Durnil was born on March 29, 1873 in Carrol Community, 
Missouri and died at the age of 67 years, one month and 12 days.

She was married to John Waldo Sawin November 25, 1896.  They made their 
home in Missouri until March 1906, when they moved to Oklahoma and filed 
on a claim in Roger Mills county, near Dempsey.

She united with the Baptist church at the age of 20 years.

She ia survived by her husband and one son, Ralph Sawin of Nogales, 
Arizona.  One daughter, Elizabeth, preceded her in death at the age of 4 
years.  Four sisters and three brothers also survive: Mrs. May Vinard of 
Tina, Missouri; Mrs. Vida Neil of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Ella Libby of 
Marshall, Missouri; Mrs. Lulu Snider of Tina, Missouri; Neal Durnil of 
Spirit Lake, Missouri; James Durnil of Tina, Missouri; and Harley Durnil 
of Bosworth, Missouri.

Killough-Hullum Funeral Home was in cfharge of arrangements.
