Officiating ministers were Rev. Dean Miller and Rev. Roy Rowlan. Burial followed in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma. Rob was born December 31, 1951 in Elk City and passed away early Tuesday morning, November 20, 1989 at the age of 38 following an 18 month battle with cancer. Rob was raised in Leedey where he attended Leedey Schools. After graduation from Leedey High School, Rob attended Sayre Junior College, Southwestern Oklahoma State University and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Funeral Director for the Martin Funeral Home for 17 years. He was married to Gigi Joyce on July 6, 1984 in Elk City. Rob was a member of Kiwanis, a 32nd Degree Mason, Knight's Templer and has been involved in the Art's Festival, Red Carpet Theatre and the American Cancer Socity. He was an active member of the choir and various committees of the United Methodist Church of Elk City. He is survived by his wife, Gigi of the Elk City home. Also three children, Stephen Tyler Smith, Ryan Tate Smith, and Lacey Renee Smith, all of Elk City; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Smith of Leedey; and two brothers, Edward Smith III of Canargo and James Smith of Leedey. Rob is also survived by his mother and father-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Joyce of Dallas, Texas; and one brother-in-law, John Joyce of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The family would like memorials sent to the Robert Smith Memorial Fund to go to the Tree of Life at the St. Mary's Hospital, Mayo Cancer Research.
