Smith was born near Des Moines, Iowa, December 6, 1868, and died June 5, 1937 at Amarillo, Texas at the age of 69 years and six months. He leaves to mourn his passing a wife and seven children, all being present at the funeral, excepting a boy who died in infancy 21 years ago. Mr. Smith came to Kansas in his early manhood, locating near Pomons, at which place he married Dora L. Akers, December 24, 1891. He came to Oklahoma in 1897 and settled near Perry, later, during the registration, moving to El Reno. Also in 1902 he filed on land near Grimes. His survivors are: His wife, Mrs. T.D. Smith, Grimes, Oklahoma; daughters, Mrs. Frankie Franklin, Mesa, Arizona; Mrs. Pearl Smith, Montevista, Colorado; Mrs. Ruby Reynolds, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mrs. Edna Barclay, Hereford, Texas; Mrs. Inez Barclay, Herford, Texas; sons: Claude Smith, Alamosa, Colorado; Fred Smith, Grimes, Oklahoma. He also leaves one brother of Kansas City, Missouri and two sisters of the same address. Mr. Smith was a man of sterling qualities, never forgetting his duties to his fellow man. He was always of a cheerful disposition, always seeing the bright side of life. Mr. Smith was a very active man and did hard work freely, allowing his ailment to overtake him, not realizing his immediate danger until just a few months ago, at which time he continued to keep up, thinking of his family first. About 10 days ago Mr. Smith decieded to go to Amarillo, Texas, for treatment. It was at this time he became suddenly worse, passing away on the afternoon of June 5, 1937.
