Summers was born May 24, 1894 in Garza, Texas in Denton county. He moved with his parents to Pauls Valley, Indian Territory in 1898. In 1911 he moved with his parents to Elk City where he grew to manhood. He was a World War I veteran, having served 9 months overseas, with Field Remount Squadron 343. He was stationed at Bordeaux, France. After discharge from the army he returned to the home of his parents at Blanchard in July 1919. He was a member of Campbell-Cross Post 81, American Legion, and representatives from his organization, Guy Davis, Dean Cross, E.E. Tracy, Tom Potts, Hoyt Little and Ed Lanterman, were pall bearers at services held at Church of Christ in Cheyenne. His remains were intered at Blanchard, Oklahoma, where the burial rites were conducted by the American Legion post of that city. He was married to Miss Alta Nowlin February 6, 1922 near Blanchard, Oklahoma. His wife preceded him in death February 13, 1927. John departed this life July 11, 1939 near Strong City, Oklahoma. He leaves to ( a line can't read) Summers, one brother R.L. Summers of Strong City, Oklahoma, and four sisters, Mrs. Fannie Renshaw, Cranfield, Colorado, Mrs Parlee Harrison, Elk City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Goldie Vandine, Strong City, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Danny Farmer, Cheyenne, Oklahoma, and a host of relatives and friernds. John H. Bannister, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, minister of the Church of Christ, officiated, assisted by Joe Laird of Elk City, Oklahoma. Tunnard Funeral Home Cheyenne was charge of arrangements.
