Stafford, 36, died in an Erick hospital Sunday afternoon, after having been sruck in the head with a ball bat in the hands of Paul C. Parker, restaurant operator at Sweetwater, Oklahoma. Details of the encounter are not obtainable, from sources other than the defendant. According the story reported by Sheriff Geo. W. Hester, which is the story told by Parker. O.H. Stafford visited the Parke resident in the afternoon of Friday, February 5, that his conduct was offensive to Mrs. Parker and her daughter who were in the restuarant. That Stafford went away and returned between 10 and 11 o'clock Friday night when Paul C. Parker and his son, Clifford, 20 years old, were on duty at the resturant. He stated that he had come back to clean up the litle town of Sweetwater, that he pulled off his coat and wanted to fight. It is alleged that Parker picked up a ball bat and that he struck Stafford on the arm or shoulder, that Stafford struck ay Parker and that as he whirled around to avoids the lick he struck Stafford on the side of the head. According to Parkeer, Safford fell near the door, that he got a pan of water and that his son and two other boys washed his face and took him to the home of his mother who resides two miles east of Sweetwater. Stafford was taken to the Erick hospital for medical aid, and died Sunday afternoon. Parker was placed in jail at Cheyenne Sunday morning, and will be given a preliminary hearing this week, being charged with murder.
