Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Word of Life Church in Perryton, Texas with Rev. Jeff Hinshaw officiating. Interment will be at Ochiltree County Cemetery under the direction of Johnson's Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker, Texas. Viewing will be at Word of Life Church Thursday October 11, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Vertis was born June 23, 1935 in Crawford, Oklahoma to Victor and Arista (Jackson) Stroup. On October 10, 1955 Mr. Stroup married Lois Bartz in Sayre, Oklahoma. After their marriage they made their home in Borger, Texas and in 1977, they moved to Perryton, Texas. While in Perryton Vertis worked for the City of Perryton and was a mechanic. Mr. Stroup was a member of Word of Life Church in Perryton, and enjoyed square dancing, water skiing, and barbecuing, but what brought him the most enjoyment in life was his great grandchild. Vertis is preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Lois of the home; one son Dewayne Stroup and his wife Kathy of Perryton; one daughter Kathy Gipson and her husband Winston of Arnett, Oklahoma; one brother Rodney Stroup of Arnett, Oklahoma; two sisters Sue Snell and husband Benny of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Audna Blassengame and husband Frankie of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
