Pastor Drue Freeman officiated the service and interment followed in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Beckham County, Okllahoma under the direction of Martin Funeral Home. Joseph Denton Thompson, known to his friends as J.S. or Denton, was born to Enoch and Stella Soward Thompson in a dugout in Indian Territoey, near Oney, Oklahoma on November 9, 1906. He went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, September 19, 2003 at the age of 96 years, 10 months and 10 days, after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Thompson married Ruby Helen Fowler in 1933 and was married for 58 years until she preceded him in death in 1992. They had one child, Kay Moore of Oklahoma City. They also had 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. J.D. graduated from Anadarko High School and in 1926 he moved into the Sandstone Community in Roger Mills County. He and his family lived in Elk City in 1947 and 1948 before moving to Cheyenne where he remained for the rest of his life. He was a rancher and farmer and raised many crops including alfalfa, wheat and cotton. He also raised mqany head of Black Angus cattle. The most important thing in his life through was his family. He was one of whoes life was known by love and devotion to family and they describe him as a "giant of a gentle man". He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruby and four brothers, Virgil, Verlin, Gene and Quinton Thompson. Survivors include a daughter, Kay Moore of klahoma City, 3 grandchildren, Pam Doughty and husband Curtis of Oklahoma City, Chris Moore and wife Kim of Cheyenne and Ruby Bogges of Oklahoma City and 3 great grandchildren, Jacob Moore, Mandy Moore and Kaylee Doughty.
