"Jumbo" Thompson, 76, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Hammons Funeral Home Chapel in Littlefield with the Rev. Benny Goss, pastor of Sunset Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park. Mr. Thompson was born in Cheyenne, Okla., and was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. In the early 1980s, he retired after 35 years in the trucking business. He and his wife then owned and operated Jumbo's Drive-In for 10 years. Mr. Thompson was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Odd Fellows and Circle Eight Square Dancers. He also was a member of First Baptist Church of Littlefield. He married Mildred Lyda in 1941 at Clovis, N. M. She died in 1987. Survivors include a son, Gary Thompson of Borger; two daughters, Judith Henderson of Littlefield and Therese Sell of Rochester, Minn.; a brother, Charlie Thompson of Hawthorn, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Lung Association.
