He passed away November 2, 2007 at Kingfisher, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years and 9 days. Orren grew up helping on his father's farm and raised cattle and horses. He attended his first school at Wild Horse, approximately six miles east of Roll, Oklahoma. His Uncle Ottis Thompson transported Orren and five other children of Wild Horse in a model "T" Ford Sedan. When Wild Horse, Simpson and Breezy Meadow consolidated into a two room school three miles east of Roll, Orren rode horse back the three and one half mile and finished his "grade" education there. After a two-year recess Orren entered Crawford High School, graduating with high honors in May of 1940. Orren's parents were in poor health and he continued to care for them and do the farming and ranching. His father passed away during an extended rainy spell in February 1960 andd the ambulance had to be pulled to the home by a tractor. In October of that year Orren's mother had to have major surgery, 80% of her stomaach was removed. After some complications and other surgery they moved to Sayre, Oklahoma on November 3, 1968 and Trula had gall bladder surgery on the 5th of that same month. Orren's mother entered the "Towsn Hall Estates" rest home in the spring of 1969, where Orren met his bride to be Esther Iva Betz, in early 1970. Orren and Esther were united in marriage on September 5, 1971. Orren had started working as a maintenance man and oversaw housed keeping at the restg home, while continuing to raise cattle and farm the family's farm. Orren did this for four years, then in July 1976 Orren and Esther moved his mother to the Cheyenne Rest Home and they moved in a neighbors house, Mr. A.E. Lovett on Highway 47, two and three quarters of aa mile east of Roll. Mr. Lovett hired Orren to help with his cattle as he had heart trouble while Orren continued to run his own cattle and farm. Orren and Esther bought two acres from Mr. Lovett in early 1981. Mr. Lovett passed away in February 1985. His ranch was soon leased to a nephew; Orren continued his farming and ranching. Orren's mother passed away October 31, 1980 and his wife Esther on July 25, 1995. Orren retired in 1997. He was preceded in deaath by his parents, wife, and grandson, Nikey Lee Thompson, granddaughter, Vickey Lynn Thompson. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Carole Ann Carlson and husband Del, Calumet, Oklahoma and Darla Meier and husband Jerry, Weatherford, Oklahoma; 2 sons, Marvin Allen and wife, Terry, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Charles Holdstock and wife Rose, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of other relatives anfd friends. Services were held November 6, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Sayre Rose Chapel officiated by Vialo Weis. Burial was held at Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklaoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
