Thorp Service Held Thurs. Funeral services were held (today) Thursday for Orville O. Thorp, 37, at the Church of Christ. Orville, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Thorp, passed away, due (sic) a heart attack, December 25, at Fort Bliss, Texas, where was stationed with the U. S. Army. Other than his parents, he is survived by his wife and three children, Sylvester, George and Mary Lou, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Janice Rymer, Morrison, Okla. An obituary will be published next week in the Advocate. ========== The Hammon Advocate, (Oklahoma) Thursday, January 4, 1962 pg 1 Services For Sgt. Orville O. Throp December 28 Services for Sgt. First Class Orville Odell Thorp, Ft. Bliss, Texas, were held from the Church of Christ in Hammon at 8:30 p.m. Thursday with Ministers Bill Trent and Bert Robertson officiating. Born April 14, 1924, in Dawn, Texas, Sgt. Thorp died unexpectedly of a heart attack at Ft. Bliss, Monday, December 25. He was married in 1952 in Germany, and was a member of the Church of Christ. Sgt. Thorp came to Hammon with his parents in 1937. He completed Hammon highschool in 1942 and enlisted in the service in 1943. He served with the engineers in the China-Burma-India theater.(sic) Following discharge, he attended the University of Maryland for two years, then re-enlisted in the Army and at the time of death was serving with the 366th Ordnance Company at Ft. Bliss where he was an instructor in demolition at a Redstone Missile site. Survivors include his wife, Vera, of the home; two sons, Sylvester and George, and a daughter, Mary Lou, all of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Throp, Hammon; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Janice Rymer, Morrison, Okla. Casketbearers were Riley W. Tippens, Edison Tippens, Jr., Leo Jones, Neil Stinson, Pete Dean and Winfred Lister. The Hammon American Legion post were honorary bearers. Burial was in the Elk City Fairlawn Cemetery*(sic) under the direction of the Martin funeral home. *Note: Orville's burial was later changed and moved to the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. ========== CARD OF THANKS Our recent sad loss leaves us with grateful hearts toward neighbors and friends.
