He passed away in Sayre, Oklahoma on January 21, 2006 at the age of 95 years. He started school at Square Top four miles east of Cheyenne, and graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1927. He graduated from Southwestern Teachers Collegee (currently Southwestern Oklahoma State University), Weatherford, Oklahoma, in 1932. While a student at Southwestern, he paid $25 per month for room and board. Tuition was $10 per semester, which included admission to all basketball and football games, and books were about 20 per semester. Leroy taught for ten years in various Oklaholma schools including Five- Star School District, Strong City, Union Center, Arcada, Edmond, and the previously mentioned Square Top. He graduated from Oklahoma University Law School, Norman, Oklahoma, in July of 1940. He married Laretha Isbell, daughter of O.K. and Maudie Isbell from Cloud Chief, and was admitted to the bar on his wedding day at age 30. He was elected Roger Mills County Attorney in Cheyenne in 1943, and served until 1957. Three children were born to this union Thomas Swank on July 11, 1941, Nova Jean on March 11, 1943, and Thaddeus Lee born August 11, 1954. Leroy and Laretha moved their family from Cheyenne to Edmond in 1957, and to Oklahoma City in 1960, returning to Cheyenne in 1991. Leroy has been a member of the Methodist church since 1923, serving as Secretary/Treasure of the Cheyenne Methodist Church from 1943 until 1957. He was on the board of directors of the Farmers Union Cooperative Royalty Oil Company for 33 years, retiring in May 1998. Preceding him in death were his wife, Laretha Isbell Vick who died February 3, 1997; his parents, Della Maude and Otto Christopher Vick; two sisters, Addie Hill Swanson of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Veta Bannister of Carlsbad, New Mexico; and one nephew. He is survived by his three children and their spouses; Tom and Serina Vick from Powder Springs, Georgia; Phil and Nova Haught from Edmond, Oklahoma; and Thaddeus and Lisa Vick from Grands Prairie, Texas; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one niece, and two nephews. Services were held January 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Cheyenne Methodist church officiated by Reverend Fernando Padilla, Jr. Burial was held at the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
