He was married to Yonzell Barton, January 29, 1953. The couple had two children, Connie born in 1953 and Tony forn 1957. Ivan died November 10, 1990, while working on a farm a short distance from his place of birth. Ivan was the kind of person who made a vivid impression on most of the people he met. From the earliest days when he attended two rural elementary schools. OK School and Springfield, his sense of humor made it easy for him to make friends. During his years at Corn High School he excelled in baseball and basketball. As a farmer he took pride in his work; both landlords and hired hands experienced his skill in farming comine with generosity. Those who kenw Ivan best saw him as a tener-hearted, frun-loving person who was totally devoted to his immediate and extended family. When Ivan's father passed away in 1949, Ivan, as the oldest son still at home, gave leadership to the family farming operation. Ivan was a devoted husband and father, he encouraged Yonzell and the children to pursue the college education he had been unable to receive. In later years, his four grandchildren became the focus of his attention. At gaterings of his extended families, Ivan was often the life of the party. He was known for his teasing, his jokes, and his pranks. He was appreciated for his love and sensitivity expressed especially in times of need. Ivan made a committement to Jesus Christ during an evangelistic crusade as a young adult. This was followed by attempts to restore relationships and make restitution to those he had wronged. In later years he continued to view these events as significant. During the early years of their marriage Ivan and Yonzell attended the Bergthal Mennonite Church until it closed. Although he never became part of the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church, he participated quietly in some of the church's projects services on television. Those who remain to grieve the loss of Ivan, include his wife, Yonzell of Corn; two children, Connie ( married to Bruce Sears and residing in Weatherford, Oklahoma,) and Tony (married to Ann Stephenson and living on a farm northwest of Corn), and four grandchildren, Lacy and Larin Sears and Tyler and Toya Vogt. Ivan is also survived by four brothers, Alfred, Jake and Paul of Corn and Jim who lives in Reedley, California; two sisters, Clara Johnson and Joyce Hinz of Corn; his mother-in-law, Veta Pearl Barton of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews, other extended family and friends.
