The deceased was born in Harrison County, Iowa, February 11, 1876 where he lived with his parents until 1900, when he went to Kingfisher, Oklahoma. He was a graduate of the college there and on coming to Day County filed on a claim near Durham. He was married November 23, 1904 to Miss Carrol Chase of Verdon, Nebraska, who has bravely shared the privaations of their frontier home. Two children were born to them, who preceded their father home. He was a man of sterling worth, honest, upright and industrious and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was the socialist candidate for county school superintendent and had he remained with us, would have polled to large vote irrespective of political belief. Besides his wife he leaves his father and mother, who are still living in the old home in Iowa, five brothers and five sisters to mourn his loss. The remains were laid to rest in Fairview cemetery Sunday, August 24 at Sundown, Rev. Daugherty conducting the services, which were simple yet impressive.
