Mary grew up in the Spring Creek area and graduated from Delhi School in 1939. On November 11, 1939, she married Herman Wills Bell in the community of Rosedale, Oklahoma. They then farmed near Spring Creek for a few years before Herman was called into the ministry. They moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma where he studied for pastoral service and upon graduation from Oklahoma Baptist University, the took the girls, Marinita and Ladona to California where he was instrumental in startin several Baptist Churches with Mary working by his side in his ministry. She worked extensively with the WMU and taughnt many Sunday School classes. She loved to entertain church members in her home and supported all phases of church activities. They moved to McLean, Texas, in 1973 where Herman was pastor of the First Baptist Church for 3 years until he passed away. Mary moved to Cheyenne where she remained until 1982 when she moved to Sayre and made her church home in the Sayre First Baptist Church. She married Norvel J. West, Jr. on November 24, 1984 in the First Baptist Church of Sayre where Norvel had spent many years as song leader and deacon. Mary enjoyed gardening and flowers and took great delight in enjoying her six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes were cooking, sewing and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Herman and 3 brothers, Fred, Carl and Guy Cornelius. Those surviving Mary are her 2 daughters, Marinita Ann Lakey and husband, Eddie Tom of Sayre, Oklahoma, and Ladona Karen Anderson and husb and, Darrell Ray of Esconidito, California; 3 sisters, Willa Thomas of Lodi, California, Willa Thomas of Lodi, California, Juanita Lowrance and husband Jiggs, Sayre, Oklahoma, and Clara Ward and husband, Don, Cache, Okloahoma; 1 brother, Curtis Cornelius, Sayre, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Cornelius, Cheyenne, Wyoming; 6 graandchildren, Candace Hines and husband, Bobby, Sayre, Oklahoma, Eddie Tom Lakey II and wife, Mary, Washington, Oklahoma, Dalton Anderson, Esconidido, California, Mindy Landes and husband, Tom, Solano Beach, California, Jenny West and husband James, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Mary Alicia Anderson, Escondido, California; 3 great grandchildren, Hunter and Bethany Hines and Baylee Lakey, along with many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 23, 1999 at the Sayre First Baptist Church officiated by Tom Cooksey, and assisted by Aaron Hacker.
