When just a young man he was called to serve his Country in World War I. He joined the U.S. Navy April 25, 1918 and was discharged September 29, 1919. On November 24, 1928 he was married to Miss Francis Calder of Durham, Oklahoma. To this union one son was born. Roy was a member of the Church of Christ and was a devoted husband and father. He came to Erick in 1935 and has been a mail carrier most of that time since. He passed away in an Elk City hospital January 26, 1952 following a brief illness. Survivors are his wife, Francis of the home address and one son, John Edward of Canadian, Texas; also one brother, Charles Whitson of Jasper, Missouri; 2 sisters, Mrs Callie Hartley of Crawford, Oklahoma and Mrs. Jesse M. Catheart of Pitcher, Oklahoma and many other relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Internement in Fairview Cemetery, Durham, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
