She went to be with our Lord on February 13, 1994 after a brief bout with cancer at Deaconess Hospital. Velma was preceded in death by one brother, J.B. and her parents. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cherita and David Sherrill of Oklahoma City; 1 granddaughter, Dava Sherrill of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Opal Stephenson of Bethany, Oklahoma; Mae Selby of Colorado Spring, Colorado; Jeanne Lowery of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; three brothers, Delbert and Toots, of Durham, Oklahoma, Jim and lorraine of Yukon, Oklahoma; and Jack and Jo Anne of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Velma was a resident of Roger Mills County most of her life. The family moved to the oklahoma City area in the last 1940's. She was employed at Baptist Memorial Hospital in 1967 and retired in 1987 but continued to work several days a week until January 10, 1994. Velma touches many lives in her unassuming way. She had one grandchild, but many children of all nationalities call her Granny. Being the oldes of 8 children, she helped provide for her smaller brothers and sisters when she was old enough to work. She was a member of the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Bethany. Her memorial services were held at the Bill Merritt Chapel on February 15, 1994 at 10 a.m. officited by Randy Morgan, assistant pastor, Dr. Ervin Donaldson, a former pastor, and David Brooks, the current pastor who stated that she was the leader of the Senior Citizen Group and often cautioned them not to act like a bunch of old people.
