Gene grew to manhood at Leedey and attended school at Leedey and Bushland, Texas. During the depression he worked at farm labor, road construction and worked in Wichita, Kansas. On December 24, 1938 he was united in marriage to Flossie Long and they moved to their farm northeast of Leedey where they lived for 46 years before retiring and moving into town. Gene loved the outdoors and especially his cattle. He loved fishing and hunting. During the eleven years he and Flossie went to South Texas for the winter, he worked hard to catch enough fish to feed the community a fish fry. During the years that the kids were growing up the family milked cows, drove a school bus, operated a filling station for years and owned and operated a cafe in Leedey. After selling the cafe, Gene owned a swather and baler and worked all through the surrounding area in the hay business. Due to health problems, he sold his cattle and farm machinery and retired. Gene became a Christian in August, 1954, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leedey. He was secretary of his Sunday School class for many years. His greatest past-time in his later years was a visit to the domino parlor where he and many friends spent many happy hours. Gene was preceded in death by his son, Delane, his mother and father, 2 infant brothers and 1 infant sister. Also by sister, Rachel Williams Watson, and 3 brothers, Riley, Everett, and Joseph Williams. Left to mourn his passing are: His wife, Flossie, of the home in Leedey, 1 son, Jerry and his wife Jo, of Yukon, Oklahoma; 2 daughters Joy Melton of Clinton, Oklahoma and Rada Sue Carman and her husband, Everett of Leedey. Granddaughters Frankie Allen, her husband Don and their children, Dustin and Cody; Denise Hamilton and her children, Kristina, Jennifer, and Matthew; Del Ann Norvelle, her husband Bob and their children, Jessica, Rhys, and Mackenzie Eugene. Grandsons are Bob Smith, A.J. Lambertus, Tony Carman and Clay Carman. Also surviving is one sister Mary Kirk Dreben of Overland Park, Kansas. Gene leaves nieces, nephews, and other dear relatives and many friends who will miss him. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK
